Members of our team specialize in designing and delivering fitness activities and sports to individuals (children 14+ and adults) with learning disability, physical disability and mental health. Every activity is arranged by consultation and feedback from the service users to ensure the right activity or sport is delivered. We deliver individual speciality exercises to small groups and on the other end of the spectrum we also arrange sport events, competitions, bouts and matches with larger groups.

Every Thursday at the Doug Ellis Sports Centre Perry Barr, we run an inter-day centre sports morning, where service users from adult day centres take part in a variety of sports and activities. These include basketball, football, hockey, cricket, table tennis, tennis, rounders and fitness and exercise. These sessions are well attended and we have had excellent feedback from service users who have been instrumental in creating these sessions.

These Thursday sessions are open to any adult with a learning disability that wants to keep active, make new friends or catch up with old friends. For those who are less able or for whatever reason do not wish to leave their locations, we offer an outreach service where our staff deliver specialised exercises and sports on site. This ranges from chair/ wheelchair exercise to yoga, again the activities are tailored to suit the needs of the clientele.

Although our work with disability groups is often therapeutic and rehabilitative we always create a fun, social and light atmosphere and we do not exclude any individual. We cater for all abilities, ages, and situations. City North Community Sports Clubs will be taking part in ‘Sport Birmingham’s Inclusive Sports Fest’ in June 2015 and we are also on the working party for the ‘Inclusive Disability Opportunities Fair’ in October 2015 – an event designed specifically for anyone with a disability.
